Story of retrofitting success from Manedobhan Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchok: Mithu Maya Lama (pictured, photo credit: UNOPS) lives in Manedobhan Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchok and received support from UNOPS and Build Change for the retrofit of her house. Mithu’s home, which was built on her own land, was partially damaged in the April 2015 earthquake. Mithu continued to run a small teashop from inside the house but lived with her family in a temporary shelter beside the house. Mithu was unsure how to proceed with repairing or rebuilding her home but after receiving information from UNOPS and Build Change engineers and social mobilisers working in the area Mithu agreed to move ahead with retrofitting her home. The retrofitting took 2.5 months to complete and Mithu is about to rent the ground floor space to a commercial bank and will move her teashop into the temporary shelter.
